ANNUAL FIRE HYDRANT TESTING through Mid-DecemberThe Winter Garden Fire Rescue Department will conduct fire hydrant flow testing and water line flushing from now through mid-December. This important annual preventative maintenance activity ensures that all the City’s fire hydrants are functioning properly and identifies any needed repairs. It also helps maintain the City’s water quality by flushing all the lines and removing sediments from the system. Residents may notice a brief reduction in water pressure and some discoloration of the water. Discolored water poses no threat to the public’s health. If you notice discolored water coming from your fixtures, please allow the cold water to flow for several minutes. Although residents may experience some temporary inconveniences, the flushing program is necessary to maintain a good water supply for firefighting. Your cooperation is appreciated. If you experience continued loss of pressure or water discoloration, please contact the Public Services Department at 407.656.2256.

Winter Garden Heritage MuseumExhibitSeminole Attire: History and Culture through DesignDuring the 19th century, the indigenous people we know as Seminoles established a presence in our region. From a Creek word meaning outcast, the name Seminoles came to signify the native Americans expelled from Georgia and Alabama and driven into Florida. Three Seminole wars in the 19th century forced them further south, into the Everglades. The style of clothing displayed in the exhibit originated in the 1920s and continues to develop today with its trademark, intricate patchwork designs. DON’T FLUSH WIPES, NOT EVEN THE FLUSHABLE ONESBaby wipes, disinfectant wipes, or even flushable wipes for personal hygiene are helpful, but when the time comes for you to discard them, do you choose the toilet or the trash can? If you flush them down the toilet, your plumbing or the City’s sewer system could get clogged, resulting in costly repairs to you and/or the City. This happens often. ALL wipes (flushable and non-flushable) are made of pulp and plastics for durability and do not break down in water like toilet paper and should always be tossed in the trash – NOT in the toilet. For more information, call 407.877.5193.
