Fire Hydrant Testing

Annual Fire Hydrant Flow Testing

September 28 - December 31

The Winter Garden Fire Rescue Department will begin the annual fire hydrant flow testing and water line flushing on September 28. This process will continue through December 31. This is an important annual preventative maintenance activity that serves several purposes. This process ensures that all the City’s fire hydrants are functioning properly and identifies any needed repairs. It also helps maintain the City’s water quality by flushing all the lines and removing sediments from the system.

Residents may notice a brief reduction in water pressure and some discoloration of the water. Discolored water poses no threat to the public’s health. If you notice discolored water coming from your fixtures, please allow the water to flow for 5 – 10 minutes to clear.

Although residents may experience some temporary inconveniences, the flushing program is necessary to maintain a good water supply for firefighting. Thank you for your cooperation and patience.

If you experience continued loss of pressure or water discoloration, please contact the Public Services Department at 407.656.2256.

Leaky Toilet

A Leaky Toilet Wastes Water and Money

Free Leak Detection Tablets Available at City Hall

A leaky toilet can waste about 200 gallons of water per day. That equates to 6,000 gallons a month for just one leaking toilet. A leaky toilet not only wastes water, a valuable natural resource, but it is also like pouring money down the drain as the wasted water will increase your water bill. Other financial expenses can also occur as water leaks can damage flooring and walls and can potentially cause mold growth, all requiring expensive repairs.

Some leaks show up as a small trickle running from the rim to the toilet bowl. However, many toilet leaks are silent and can go undetected for a long time. The good news is that a simple, at-home test using a toilet leak detection dye tablet can identify leaks. To use, place the tablet in the tank of the toilet, then wait a few minutes. If there is a leak, color will appear in the toilet bowl.

To help you become a leak detective, free toilet leak detection tablets are available at Winter Garden City Hall reception desk from now through October 31, while supplies last (300 W. Plant St., M-F, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm).

For more information, call 407.877.5193.

Mobile Citizen App Can Be Used for Hurricane-Related Requests

Download the App Today

Hurricane season peaks this month, and the Mobile Citizen App can be a vital tool to help you communicate with the City for nonemergency hurricane-related requests. For example, if you see a fallen tree blocking a roadway, street flooding, traffic signal outages, street signs down, etc., you can select the “Hurricane/Storm Disaster Event” service option on the app to route your concern properly. In a few clicks, your service request can be submitted. (For all emergencies, dial 9-1-1.)

The app is also a convenient tool to use year-round to address the service needs in your neighborhood and community such as to report a missed trash pickup, cracked sidewalk, a pothole, a damaged street sign, etc.

Hurricane season goes through November 30, so be prepared and download the free Mobile Citizen App from Apple Store or Google Play to your personal device today.

Remember, for all emergencies, dial 9-1-1.
