New Rule: Skip the Nitrogen Fertilizer this Summer

Man Fertilizing Lawn

Orange County’s Fertilizer Management Ordinance (effective June 1, 2022) applies to everyone in Winter Garden. This annual summer fertilizer rule is per a new Orange County ordinance to protect our springs, lakes, and rivers.

From June 1 through September 30, ONLY fertilizers with ZERO NITROGEN and ZERO PHOSPHORUS are permitted.   This is due to the abundance of rain the area gets during these summer months, which flushes the pollutants from lawns into our local waterbodies.

From October 1 through May 31, fertilizers containing nitrogen are permitted. HOWEVER, the fertilizers must contain at least 65% slow release nitrogen.
