Painting & Drawing

WG/PD102 INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING & PAINTING

Open to beginning students as an introduction to the fundamentals of art while sampling various drawing and painting techniques using different media, including watercolors, acrylics and oils. Tuition includes most materials and supplies.

Learn techniques of paint handling, color mixing, mediums, glazing and toning through assignments and demonstrations. Repeat students are welcome to work independently with the instructor’s help.

Execute interpretive landscape paintings from photos in this introductory- to intermediate-level class. The focus will be on the fundamentals, composition, perspective, color, texture and individual interest. Explore modifying colors and simplifying composition to create a work of art in oils or acrylics. Instructor demos will be with oil paint. Repeat students are welcome to work independently with instructor’s guidance as requested.

“Drawing I” covers basic principles of drawing and composition. Students will learn techniques of measuring angles and proportions to create accurate line drawings, techniques of shading to create light and volume, and principles of composition to create dynamic, engaging images.

Learn to explore and paint with a contemporary approach. Develop ideas with color, shapes and design, focusing on abstract images and patterns. Through this fun course, you will experiment with ways to give a modern feel to a subject matter, while referencing well-known modern artists for inspiration. It’s a perfect class for those who desire to create their own unique artworks but don’t know where to start.

Through instruction and assignments, learn essential photography concepts such as exposure, composition, and lighting. Understanding camera settings and how to adjust aperture and shutter speeds will allow you to gain creative control of your photography.

Landscape, portrait and documentary photography themes are examined through lectures, slide presentations, assignments, critiques and field trips. A special session and field trip on night photography is featured. Designed for the visual and photographic growth of intermediate-level students working in film or digital, color or black-and-white. Prerequisite: “Photography II” or similar experience.

Basic lighting and posing techniques and the use of flash and natural light are covered in this class. Focus is on defining the photographic portrait to reveal a subject’s unique personality. Students can work in black-and-white or color. Prerequisite: “Photography II” or similar experience.

WG/PH368 CONCEPTUAL PHTOGRAPHY

Students will learn the meaning of conceptual photography and combine their photography and creative skills to produce conceptual art. This six-week class will include a review in technical camera skills, and weekly themed conceptual assignments. Students also will participate in exercises to help each photographer bring theory to creative conception, and creative concept to the photograph. Prerequisite: “Digital Photography II” or similar experience.

Experience the wonder of the wheel as you shape a soft clay ball into a pot. Learn to combine thrown and handbuilt forms to create exciting clay vessels. Decorate and glaze for functional pottery.


 

About Our Instructors...

BEATRICE ATHANAS: A realistic painter of European landscapes, she was born in Germany and has traveled widely. Her work shows passion in the use of vibrant colors, brush stroke techniques and the light that reflects her mood towards the subject.

PATRICIA BYRON: A professional artist who has lived abroad, her inspiration and passion for the arts is due to her travels and love of nature. She has been an art instructor with Crealdé for over six years. Her artwork is on permanent display at the Cultural Arts Alliance and in private collections.

PRAYONG DEEYING: Received his BFA at Fine Art University, Thailand and his Master’s Degree in Painting from Northwestern State University, Louisiana. He taught art for 13 years and was employed for 20 years at Walt Disney World as a Senior Artist Prep.

BELINDA GLENNON: Joined the Crealdé faculty in 2002 where she teaches hand building and wheel throwing for adults and youth and is coordinator of the Young Artist Program. She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Central Florida.

CAT HEMPEL: A Winter Garden resident with a bachelor’s degree in drawing and print making from UCF and an Associate Member of the Oil Painters of America.

MARK LEPOW: Received his photographic education at Daytona State College and is active in photographing community events throughout Winter Garden including 3k-5k runs, cycling, and triathlons.

TRISH O’DONNELL: A Winter Garden resident with a BA in Studio Art and Art Education, Trish currently teaches art at Montverde Academy. She loves drawing, painting and photography, and sharing in the creative experience with children of all ages.

PETER SCHREYER: Executive Director at Crealdé; international exhibition record, numerous awards and public art commissions; including four documentary projects in the Winter Garden and Lake Apopka area in the past 15 years. Named Arts Educator of the Year in 2009 by United Arts.

MICHAEL VAN GELDER: An Orlando area commercial photographer who specializes in documenting musical and entertainment events. His work has appeared in such publications as Music Entertainment Magazine. All Access Music Magazine, and Guitar Magazine.
