The City of Winter Garden is pleased to offer a programming partnership with one of Florida’s top rated arts organizations, bringing the trusted Crealdé brand of visual arts education to the Jessie Brock Community Center!  Please take the opportunity to check out the great classes being offered.

Crealdé School of Art is a community based non-profit organization that was established in 1975.  From its two Winter Park campuses, Crealdé offers an affordable curriculum of over 90 studio courses and workshops in painting and drawing, photography, ceramics and sculpture for adults and children of all ages and backgrounds.  The hand-on visual arts courses are taught by a professional faculty of over 40 artists and attract students from throughout Central Florida.

WG/PD102 Intro to Drawing and Painting
Instructor: Cat Hempel
8-week classes available; Mondays, 6 - 8 pm
Open to beginning students as an introduction to the fundamentals of art.  Sample various drawing and painting techniques using different media, including watercolors, acrylics, and oils.  Tuition includes most materials and supplies.

Instructor: Prayong Deeying
8-week class starting March 29; Thursdays, 6 – 8pm
Students will learn basic principles of drawing and composition, including techniques of measuring angles and proportions.  Create accurate line drawings using techniques of shading to create light and volume, and principles of composition to create dynamic, engaging images.

WG/PD106 The Power of Pastels

8-week classes available; Thursdays, 1 – 3pm
Pastels are a beautifully luminous medium in which to develop drawing and color blending skills.  Learn why artists have used them throughout history.  Students will work inside and outdoors.

We will use an assemblage of everything we can put our hands on from photos to wallpaper, to create beautiful works of art.  Come and have fun making memorable collage art.

WG/PD115 Intro to Acrylic Painting

8-week classes available; Tuesdays, 6 – 8pm
Basic drawing, composition, and painting techniques are taught step-by-step through study of the still life.  Explore themes particular to your own inspiration.  This course emphasizes the versatility of the acrylic medium.

WG/PD119 Introduction to Oil Painting

8-week classes available; Wednesdays, 6 – 8pm
Learn techniques of paint handling, color mixing, mediums, glazing and toning through assignments and demonstrations.  Repeat students are welcome to work independently with the instructor’s help.

WG/PD120 Fundamentals of Color

8-week classes available; Wednesdays, 6 – 8pm
A great course for painters of all levels and recommended for beginners; working with oil paint as the medium.  Learn to mix any color and improve your color perception.  Exercises enable students to represent what they see.  Oil paints and canvas provided.

WG/PH147 Digital Photography I
Instructor: Michael Van Gelder
Two 8-week classes available:
Session 1: Starts January 9; Mondays, 6 – 8pm
Session 2: Starts March 26; Mondays, 6 – 8pm
This course serves a thorough, hands-on introduction to digital photography.  Topics will include camera controls, image resolution, composition, lighting and lens use, enabling you to take better photographs of people, landscapes and travel experiences.  Class also features assignments with a follow up by the instructor.

WG/PH148 Digital Photography II

Two 8-week classes available:
Session 1: Starts January 11; Wednesdays, 6 – 8pm
Session 2: Starts March 28; Wednesdays, 6 – 8pm
Students immerse themselves deeper into composition, lighting, flash and special equipment.  Manipulating images for printing or posting online is also covered.  Class includes a field trip and assignments with follow up review by the instructor.

WG/PH241 Photography III

8-week classes available; Thursdays, 6 – 8pm
Landscape, portraits and documentary photography themes are examined through lectures, slide presentations, assignments, critiques and field trips.  A special session and field trip on night photography is featured.  Designed for the visual and photographic growth of intermediate level students working in film or digital, color or black and white.  Prerequisite: Photography II or similar experience.

WG/PH246 Flash Photography
Instructor: Michael Van Gelder
4-week class starting April 26; Thursdays, 7 – 9pm
Learn to mix flash with available light, bounce flash, use of TTL metering system and special effects.  Students will learn to become more comfortable working with their external flash.  Prerequisite: Photography II or similar experience.

WG/PH250 Night Photography

4-week class starting March 29; Thursdays, 6 – 8pm
Learn to make successful photos in low-light situations.  ISO speed, timed exposures, and metering low-light areas are covered.  Creative use of white balance will also be covered, along with issues of noise reduction.  Prerequisite: Photography II or similar experience.

Ceramics & Sculpture

WG/TD121 Creative Clay Handbuilding
Instructor: Belinda Glennon
6-week class starting March 27; Tuesdays, 6 – 8pm
Learn to create functional pottery pieces using traditional handbuilding techniques of coil, pinch and glazes.  We will explore additive and subtractive texture treatments, then enhance and embellish with glazes.  Class is suitable for all skill levels.

WG/TD124 Introduction to Sculpture
Instructor: Prayong Deeying
8-week classes available; Saturdays, 10am – 12pm
This beginning class focuses on the basic steps of mold making, with an introduction to the materials and tools used.  Students will make a simple plaster mold using their subject of choice, learning how to build an armature along with modeling techniques and composition.  Demonstrations, individual instruction and critiques are included with the objective to create one or two finished sculptures by the end of the term.

WG/TD136 Ceramic Sampler

Have you wanted to create with clay but can’t decide whether the potter’s wheel or building by hand is the right choice?  In this sampler class you can try several projects using both techniques and discover where your talents shine.

WG/YAP201 Exploring Multi-Media Art

We will explore various drawing media on paper, collage and painting while developing skills of observation and experimentation.  Students will start out in black and white and progress to color.

WG/YAP204 Creating with Clay
Instructor: Belinda Glennon
6-week classes available; Tuesdays, 3:30 – 5pm
Bring your imagination and explore the plasticity of clay as you use handbuilding techniques to build functional pots and animal sculptures.  Embellish them with glazes and take home your own ceramic keepsakes.
