City of Winter Garden offering Small Business Class
Developing your idea for a small business
is complex—but not impossible…
The City of Winter Garden would like to announce the upcoming in-depth training for small businesses in West Orange County. The NxLeveL TM entrepreneurial training program is new to the Central Florida area.
The 36-hour, 12-week course is scheduled to start on October 17, 2006. Classes will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Winter Garden City Hall, 251 W. Plant Street.
Sheila Guillette-Moore, Master Trainer for the NxLeveL Education Foundation, will be the class instructor.
Registration deadline is September 28th. A fee of $300 is charged for enrollment in the course, which covers tuition, textbook and workbook. A 50% reimbursable discount is offered to Winter Garden businesses which complete the classes.

Fine Dining at Saris
Nestled into a side street of downtown Winter Garden is an elegant Latin and French-inspired fine cuisine restaurant. Newly opened Saris Restaurant is owned by Executive Chef Enrique Vives, partnering with his Sous Chef – younger brother Harvey. The name Saris originated from the Spanish meaning of “little princess” and was inspired by a combination of Chef Vives’ mother’s name and his daughter’s middle name.
Mr. Vives was trained at California Culinary Academy (CCA) in San Francisco and mentored by Chef Don Woods of New York and Chef Joseph Marchetti of Ritz Carlton. After graduation, Vives opened several restaurants in Los Angeles. Harvey Vives received his professional training in Puerto Rico and continues to build on that through a healthy competition of “one-upping” his brother in culinary perfection and excellence.
Chef Vives explained, “This is my first attempt at owning and operating my own restaurant, and I picked Winter Garden because I think we can grow with the community. It is our mission to provide quality food, quality service, and quality ambiance to our customers.”
The small dining room and adjoining open kitchen set Saris apart from the standard dining establishment. Plush seating, dark woods and stained glass add to the intimate atmosphere, offering a perfect backdrop to showcase the art of preparing and presenting the food with personal service from the chef and owner himself. Popular menu selections include Saris crab cake, lobster bisque, Creekstone Farm Black Angus filet mignon, and carrot cake with caramel sauce.

Party Supplies Galore! —'Party Plus' opens in the Winter Garden Regional Shopping Center
Winter Garden native Kathy Robertson formerly coordinated banquets and parties for her Clermont church, logging many hours and a lot of travel to various locations in west Orange County to oversee the events. She loved the creativity of the planning process, and now she can provide the same expertise from one location she can call her own.
Kathy and husband Danny opened Party Plus in the Winter Garden Regional Shopping Center, 14045 W. Colonial Drive. Grand opening was celebrated May 20 th and as their business card proclaims, they are ready to “help you celebrate special dates.” The 3,500 square-foot store stocks a wide variety of themed party supplies for adults and children, holiday decorations, tableware and catering supplies, gift cards and wraps, and balloons. The “Plus” in their name refers to the next level in party supplies: tables, tents, jumps, and larger setup requirements.
The Robertsons also offer balloon bouquets and drops, gift wrapping and personal delivery. Kathy says, “My passion is the gift baskets.” When the business is well-established and a staff is in place, they will add a website and more custom services.
Kathy is pleased with the store’s location in the Winter Garden Regional Shopping Center. The property is well-maintained and the neighboring business owners have been friendly and welcoming. She looks forward to the increased traffic when Park Avenue improvements are complete.
